When Stars Align

The Vineyards

Planetary Estates

Located within the Yountville Appellation where the sky is lit with thousands of shimmering stars, our vines welcome the sun’s warm rays pouring through the hills each morning from 92,000,000 miles away. From our small, gold-dusted vineyard we craft wines that reflect our passion for the science of the earth and the palette of colors in the sky above.

This heavenly site has beautifully well-drained gravelly earth making the match of the 101-14 rootstock with the clone 337 a perfect pairing. Being responsible for some of the best wines from Napa, the clone 337 shines bright through it’s bold powerful profile with a touch of elegance.

Please enjoy our wines under a starlit sky with those that are close to you.

Founder

Dan Melchior

As a perpetual learner, Dan enjoys taking new knowledge and enhancing his approach to tackling complex problems. He began his education focused on the sciences and the explosion of data and technology created by the space program. He used to rush home to watch NASA launches, landings and important space activities. Taking this fascination to college, Dan studied in depth the chemistry of earth and the environment. He later arrived at the Colorado School of Mines where he completed a PhD in Geochemistry focused on the chemical transport of contaminants in groundwater.

Once in the professional world he consulted to many government and commercial entities on the environment and cleanup of contaminated sites. He later took his knowledge to create new businesses in support of customers who manage large programs. He had the privilege to support federal agencies, manage large facilities and operations.

Throughout his career, travel took him to the bay area often and other wine producing areas such as WA, NM, and MO. After many trips to Napa he and his wife purchased a beautiful vineyard property surrounded by world class vineyards. That property now produces the Cabernet Sauvignon in the Polaris label.

Winemaker

Cabell Coursey

Cabell’s love for winemaking began in Burgundy where he worked his first harvest during an undergraduate semester abroad. His desire for knowledge took him next to harvest in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, and later to Christchurch, New Zealand where he earned graduate degrees in Enology and Viticulture from Lincoln University. It was there he developed the passion for cool climate wines that guides his style today.
